What exactly is the Internet?

To some of us the internet is the data we get from our service providers, others think it consists of waves flying around in the air and into our devices. For some people the internet is Google
The internet is actually a network of networks. It is a connection of devices all over the world.

How do these devices connect to each other

Fun fact: A good part of the internet connection is a wired connection. These wires are fibre optic cables which transmit information not by electricity but by light which is much faster. These cables are laid on the ocean floor and connect many continents and countries to each other.

This is the major internet connection. From this connection our Internet Service Providers (Internet Service Providers) connect to it. Through radio waves from our ISPs our Wi-Fis and sim cards get connected and then our devices.
Connected to these networks are also servers which hold information and routers which help in communication between devices and the server.

How information is sent in the internet

When sending a letter to a person, we indicate the address we want to send it to. In a similar way, every device connected to the internet has a unique IP address.
The IP(Internet Protocol) Address is a number code that identifies a device or website (e.g 216.58.210.46 is Google's IP address)

When information is transmitted from one device to another it is actually by the IP address that they are recognized in the internet.

HTTP and HTML

HyperText Transfer Protocol(HTTP) is the language used to connect between web browsers and servers. Servers send back information. This information is usually in the form of HyperText Markup Language(HTML). This determines how the webpage is going to be laid.
